Things To See & Do

Donkey Sanctuary - El Refugio del Burrito

A visit to the Donkey Sanctuary in the lovely village of Fuente de Piedra, Antequera is a must.  To be able to see all the rescued donkeys living such a splendid life now warms the heart.

They have a great website where you can view pictures of some of the donkeys and read their individual heartrending stories, and for the softhearted ones of you out there, you can even arrange to make a donation or adopt a donkey to help fund their future care.  You can find out the location of the sanctuary and how to get there, along with lots of other info, by visiting their website on the following address: www.elrefugiodelburrito.com

Antequera Golf

Situated high in the hills and surrounded by the El Torcal mountains, Antequera Golf offers a challenging golfing experience, with quite spectacular scenery for you to enjoy whilst waiting for your partner to take his/her shot.  Antequera golf is 650 meters above sea level and currently offers 18 holes complete with 10 lakes.  However this will soon be extended to give 36 greens. Special consideration has been given to the flora and fauna in the area and indeed in some places the fairways are lined by olive trees some of which are 200 years old.

The 18 hole course is made up with 4 par-fives, 10 par -fours,  and 4 par-threes.  We feel it can be quite a challenging course, depending on your level of play, and both beginners and experts will find parts of the course testing.

As you can see from the pictures above this is a beautifully kept course with it's 10 lakes that are filled with water gathered from the mountains during the winter months.  You can book your tee times in advance via the following web address: http://www.hotelantequera.com scroll down the page and click in the box Camp de Golf.  You can select the language of your choice, and further information about the course and booking  is available.

Lobo Park - Antequera

A visit to the little known Lobo Park in Antequera is a must.  It is popular with both adults and children alike.  Set in 40 hectares of land the park is home to several species of wolves all whom have been hand reared by the park owners.  The park owners are passionate about their wolves and dedicated to their care.   This clearly shows throughout the park and the environment they have created for the wolves is wonderful.

Wolves are naturally shy animals and so it was necessary for the park owners to hand rear them from puppies to ensure they are not disturbed by visitors.   They live in very large enclosures in natural groups and viewing platforms ensure that visitors have the opportunity to study the wolves close up and see the social behaviour within the packs.  The enclosures are very generously proportioned and offer plenty of space for play, relaxation in the shade, open spaces in the sun, and they even have natural pools to enable the wolves to bathe or cool off in the heat of the summer.

There is a petting zoo for children and the more adventurous can also tour the park on horseback.
